More Google Changes - This Time It's Gmail
For now, at least, the new features will be opt-in — and not all of us will be able to access them immediately. “If you like what you see, over the next few days you’ll be able to switch to the new look by clicking on Switch to the new look in the bottom-right of Gmail,” writes Google user experience designer Jason Cornwell. So let's wait and see. This week's changes to Google Reader have not gone down well with a lot of users. I wonder how the Gmail changes will fare.

The Web 1994-2011
No, the dates above are not a total lifespan. The web hasn't died. I found this timeline entitled The Evolution of the Web quite fascinating, and beautifully constructed and coloured.
Looking back to 1994/5, when I first used the Mosaic browser and then later migrated across to Netscape, I was a little surprised to see the degree to which the heart of the web technology was developed in the early years, and that most of what has followed is "bells and whistles".
Interestingly, there's quite a cluster of developments shown in 2008-11 but I wonder, with the benefit of hindsight in ten years' time, how many of them will feature as important long-term.
[By the way, the AdMastery blog is now almost ready for relaunch].

More on The-Fuchsia-File
Yesterday morning I spent quite a lot of time working on the-fuchsia-file site. I think it's now considerably improved, although much of what I did won't be immediately obvious. The benefits will come later in the form of easier navigation as the site grows.
It was pleasing to find that for some of my target keywords (example Fuchsia 'Carmel Blue') we're on the front page of search results on Google, Yahoo and Bing. Of course, there's still a long way to go to get there for some of the more popular search terms, but I'm pleased as Fuchsia 'Carmel Blue' is one of my favourites.
A variety I've grown for the first time this year is Fuchsia 'Spion Kop'. The picture below reminds me that I didn't do a very good job of shaping the bush early in the season but as I say, it's a first time and I'll know better next year.

The Fuchsia File
I first launched my site about fuchsias in 2008 and it got quite a lot of visitors. However, while off ill I neglected it and it needed serious attention.
Yesterday I relaunched The-Fuchsia-File in a new format, and a lot of new content. I'll gradually be increasing the number of fuchsia varieties described and illustrated.
Also there's a section on fuchsia books, and there are now two separate sections (one for the US, the other for the UK, with items priced in dollars and pounds respectively) with catalogues of wonderful fuchsia pictures, both art posters and photographic prints.
Take a look. I hope you enjoy my site about one of the world's most popular flowering plants.

Our Cat Care online business - a hard lesson
On recovering, and returning to my keyboard, I discovered not only that I had lost it but also that it was now owned by a domain name trader who wished to charge me a hefty fee to get it back.
I'm still pondering the situation, and may relaunch with another domain name but this has taught me one important lesson. "Always register domain names with companies who provide automatic renewal". Most do, but it needs checking carefully.
Meanwhile I see that the little blog I created a year or two ago about cat walking, harnesses and leashes is still online at Blogspot.
The New AdMastery.biz Info-Blog
This blog replaces the old Brunlea blog as I'm no longer using the BrunleaWeb brand at the core of my main advertising activity. That will take a somewhat different direction in the future.
